Beer tastings

The Power of Craft

Tasting beer a few metres from the kettle

In the Brewery Café we pour tasting glasses of our draught beers, in a heavenly or a hellish line up. Everything you taste is brewed in the brewhouse and in the cellars under your feet.

With every glass you hear what you are tasting and why.

The brewery

The brewers work right among the guests

City Brewery De Hemel brews in the brewhouse in the restaurant area and in the cellars of the Commanderie van Sint Jan. During the day the brewers are often there, so it can easily happen that you are sitting in the same room tasting or having lunch while they are working. The smell of the mash comes free with it.

Monday and Tuesday afternoon

See the brewers at work

That is when brewing takes place in the brewhouse, while you sit a few metres away tasting, having lunch or drinking high tea.

Always available

Simply from the menu

A tasting belongs to the café, not to a programme. You order it during opening hours, just like any other glass.

Where it happens

The brewhouse and the cellars

You sit a few metres from the kettles. What you taste matured in the cellars under your feet. View our beers

Under one roof

What you taste here comes from this house

In this building beer is brewed, coffee is roasted, chocolate is made, mustard is milled and vinegar is matured. The difference lies in the people who make it and who welcome you.

The brewery returnedto its own cellar

In 1495 beer was already being brewed in this house. After the bombing of 1944 a ruin remained, rebuilt between 1969 and 1974. In 1999 the brewery came back to its old place.
